Hundreds of area kids to receive free tennis lessons PDF Print
Sunday, 24 September 2006

DELRAY BEACH - Hundreds of children from across the city will be exposed to the game of tennis at a four-day camp next month. United States Tennis Association certified instructors will teach the classes to the youngsters, ages 6-17.

A T2K06 Jamboree will kick off the free camp on October 14 at Catherine Strong Tennis Court, 1500 SW 6th Street. Participants will win prizes throughout the day. The Jamboree will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"This is by far the most fun kids will have on a tennis court while improving their strokes at the same time," said Seabron Smith, executive director of the Center for Technology, Enterprise and Development, one of the event’s sponsors. "We are proud to share the excitement, energy and growth in self-confidence that comes from learning, improvement and new friendships."

The camp coaches, who collectively are among the finest coaches in America, take enormous pride in the quality of their camps, said Robert Dodd, program manager of the Knights of Pythagoras Mentoring Network, which is organizing the camp. "The instructional programs are geared to the specific level of each camper and we want every one of our campers to learn the basics and have a load of fun in the process," Dodd said.

Other sponsors are the United States Tennis Association, the City of Delray Beach, the Center for Technology, Enterprise and Development and LISC of South Florida.
