NOTABLES Four adult members of the group, including program director Robert Dodd, accompanied the boys, who range in age from 7 to 17. “It opened their eyes to the crime that is in their community and how they can get caught up in it,” said Dodd. ”It made them more aware of how to pick and choose who they hang out with, and the areas they choose to go to.” Dennis Allen, Tevin Blake, Angel Hernandez, Milsonne Henriste, Mervens Moreau, Jamaal Weatherspoon and Montre Bennett of Delray Beach, and Marcel Montgomery and Devonte Wilson of Boynton Beach were among the members who raised more than $600 at a car wash and received donations from sponsors in the community. At the conference, they attended workshops on topics such as teenage relationships and peer pressure and took notes throughout the day. At the end of the conference, each student compiled his notes into an essay.
The Knights of Pythagoras serves about 35 boys in Broward and Palm Beach counties. |
